Art attack

Honies…I’m home!
Jennie here:jennie.jpg

I know you’ve all missed me desperately. My holiday was awesome and I wish I was still laying by the pool right now.

But, there is one good thing about being back in the H+P office. There’s still time to draw an awesome pic of your fave horse and pony to enter the Get Arty for The Brooke competition. The best entries, received by December 14, and accompanied by a short sentence about what they mean to you, will be displayed at an exhibition in London. Plus there’s a chance to win a trip to Alton Towers and loads of other cool stuff too.

getartweb.jpg

So, if you’re the arty sort and want to show your support for equine abroad – draw a pic of your fave nag and in one sentence describe why he’s so spesh. Log onto www.thebrook.org/getarty for more info on how to enter.
Now where is Desmond to pose for a portrait…x

The ear has healed

Hey everyone

Sarah (and Tippy) here: _MG_0429.JPG

Tippy's ear has healed and she's feeling fine again. The vet said to keep her fly mask on to stop any flies getting in and irritating it as the skin is still sensitive, but apart from that she's very happy.

We're now in training for a local sponsored ride. This will be the first 'event' Tippy's been to for some time so hopefully I'll keep control. We're only going to be doing the 10 mile option as she's no spring chicken. We're also opting for a late start time so we won't upset any other riders by just going steadily. I've decided that I will get off and lead her if she needs a break so I'm going to have to get fitter too!

I'll keep you posted on how we get on!

For Sale - one naughty old horse!

Hiya

newlaura.jpg

Kidding, not really going to sell Thomas, but he is deffo in my bad books.

We had the first team chase on the year last Sunday. It was all goin well, we were jumping a good round and all was fine and dandy. UNTIL we got to a hedge, (of all things to have a problem at he picks probably the most straightforward fence on the course!) My sister had fallen off at the fence before, just toppled off the side so her horse Coby was running about all over the place which took Thomas' mind off the job a bit and so I had got a little left behind.

Sarah and Tom (my other team members) were just ahead so apparently that was it for Thomas, game over. He couldn’t see Warhorse, his bezza field friend so that was it he stopped and I not so gracefully sailed over his head and landed on the hedge in question.

I mean can you believe it! What a wimp no one to follow so he just gives up! Bad Thomas. To make things even worse the other one team chases we were entered into for this year have been cancelled because of the FMD outbreak so my team chasing this season could start and finish with a fall! ( :

Name that Naglet!

Hi everyone

Jennie here:jennie.jpg

Hope your week at school has been fun. I had a nice road trip to Devon at the beginning of this week, with Puffa clothing company. We visited some of their sponsored eventers who were super-nice. You’ll see what we got up to in future issues of the mag so keep your eyes peeled.

The rest of this week has been office based, starting work on the new issue which is choc-a-block with amazing stuff. You’re in for a treat!

Speaking of treats… natural horsey treat company Naglets are running an internet competition at the mo. They want you to think of a name for their Special Halloweeen bat-shaped treats. Send your ideas to naglets@gmail.com. The winner will receive a Halloween Hamper next October with treats labelled with their winning treat name and their name.

There’s no trick, it’s just a treat for your pony if you win. Get your witches' hats on a come up with a spooky name for Naglets’ Pumpkin and Devil’s Claw flavoured tasties. Entries close on October 21st. Check out the whole Naglets range at www.naglets.com they’re fangtastic!

ILPH Hoof it for Horses

Hey everyone

Sarah (and Tippy) here: _MG_0429.JPG

Don't forget it's sooo nearly Hoof it for Horses, the International League for the Protection of Horse’s (ILPH) annual fundraising day. This year's mega event takes place on October 6 (the Saturday after this one).

You could organise your own event or take part in one of the ILPH’s sponsored walks, even the Horse of the Year Show which is on that day is getting involved. For more info log onto www.ilph.org/hoofit

Even the ILPH's mascot Hoof it Harry is getting involved. He's going to be running about so much on the day he's in training now!

Tippy's tired!

Hey everyone

Sarah (and Tippy) here: _MG_0429.JPG

I've had a few days off work and while I'm feeling ultra-refreshed and ready to go again, Tippy's exhausted!

She's not keen on being ridden every day! Well it's not so much the riding as all the scary stuff she's seen while we've been out hacking. The annual hedge-trim on the bridleways and lanes around the stables has started and we keep trotting round a corner and coming face to face with a massive tractor and hedge cutter. Scary or what?

Tippy's also annoyed as pretty much every day we've been out for a hack, it's rained and she's come home soaked. I've had to dig out my cooler rug to get her dry and comfy.

Also, to keep you updated! Most of the swallows left the beams (above Tippy's head) last Saturday for their long migration south. I think they knew the cold weather was on its way. There are five remaining birds, three youngsters and two adults. I guess they are waiting for the young birds to be strong enough to make the journey.

Bye for now!

Wish me luck!

Hi

Laura here: newlaura.jpg

EEK! I’m running the Great North run this weekend and yikes I am scared! Thirteen miles that’s a good length sponsored ride and I’m going to attempt it on foot! What was I thinking entering it? All this week I have been living off pasta and potatoes storing up my energy for the weekend and I have got to say, I am well bored of it now I have to say!

Took Thomas schooling at the weekend, he was a very good boy, think he is trying to make it up to me after the fiasco with the hedge! So all is now forgiven!

Wish me luck for the weekend peeps, I will let know when I am back in the office if I get round!

Busy week

Hello all

Jennie here:jennie.jpg

It’s almost the end of the month – I can’t believe it. Christmas is coming, and don’t I know it. I’ve been glued to my computer screen this week checking out all the awesome stuff you’re going to want on your wish list for Santa.

I’ve also been putting more fashion pages together which I have loved – there is soo much cute stuff out there. You guys are going to look HOT this winter.

Speaking of winter – it’s defo here. Hating this weather at the mo. It’s good for Laura though, who’s running a massively long way on Sunday when she takes part in the Great North Run. I shall be sitting in front of the TV and looking out for her (nothing too strenuous for me)!

Have a good weekend x
